Photoshop Collage
September 20, 2015
This Photoshop collage of me holding a portrait with a bizarre touch of different types of clouds has a huge meaning to me as well as importance. Many of us observe sunsets, on the other hand there’s me observing clouds, it’s so beautiful, its shape, texture, color is so original. Nature overall is just wonderful and sometimes unbelievable to me. Fact is it doesn’t try to be beautiful, it goes with its natural flows, unlike us humans that attempt to perfection-ate ourselves, for example many females wear makeup to hide imperfections and please ourselves.

Process:
At first I didn’t know what to name my digital collage, I had multiple ideas, but I wanted the title to symbolize the meaning of this picture. I remember I was in psychology class, and we were talking about compliance and causation. I had already learned about this in ToK, next thing is I zone out and start thinking about my life, how much I’ve improved and how I’ve changed this year. Accomplishing anything is genuinely a unique feeling, my self esteem and expectations of myself rises. None of this accomplishments weren’t easy, I went through many obstacles and terrible days, that I just wanted not to do anything except complain and have everything be easy for me. Which leads me to the moral of my collage. There’s no such thing as everything going ordinally your way, right and with an easy flow. When working and/or socializing, I’ve met all types of people with different personality, I’ve had to deal with very disrespectful people, I don’t know why I would let that affect me , but it did , to the point that it ruined my day. Apart from work, at school I would also have bad days, little things would even affect me, such as bad grades or even getting late and missing out on the day’s lesson. Not to forget that at home, I would have bad days. All this, school, work and home has and still does build up stress, and that’s what keeps me going. Reflection:This all helped me on what to do for my collage, at first I didn’t have a clear image of what I wanted, but with experimenting and trying new things, I ended up loving my product. I wanted a picture of me, that was for sure, so I went through my pictures on my phone. I noticed I had many pictures of clouds, they all looked different which made this project even easier. Finally I had an idea of what to do for my collage, to be honest, it was too plain when I finished. Since I had already played with Photoshop, it was easier to mess around with effects and filters. I got to the point where I considered it “cool” that I left it there, and not ruin it.

My collage has this dissolved or fading look, I discovered that in my sophomore year of art but in paintings. Like Monet that’s art was focused on landscapes, waterfront scenes, and sunny hues. One of his technique was to dissolve the form of subject into light and atmosphere. His advice was “try to forget what objects you have before you, a tree, a house, a field, or whatever. Merely think, here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow, and paint it just as it looks to you”. It’s crazy to know how I did one of his painting sophomore year, ‘Sunset in Venice’, I did it using his advice, I painted what I saw. In my picture there’s 3 types of clouds combined, Cumulonimbus, Cumulus, Stratocumulus. Cumulus clouds are usually brilliant white or pearly, comparable to the best days I would have. Stratocumulus would look grayish, and block much of the sunlight, as if I had a smooth day, everything was going slow, and maybe something wasn’t right. Lastly there’s Cumulonimbus clouds, they tend to be dark and block all the sunlight, these type of clouds would come out before it rained, these definitely represent my worst days, when even my mood would be ugly. |
