Wood, wool strings, paint
12cm x 12cm
April 8, 2016
This artpiece is made of wood blocks, with the purpose to see how light and shadows work together. This artpiece has also been introduced to MIAD's sophomore students. I was inspired by the art movement Pop Art, Golden Bridge and Milwaukee Art Museum. That is shown through the wool strings making lines and repetition and causing some movement. I added color to make it more professional looking and have a calm vibe, such as yellow and white.

Process:
1. Draw three lines to make a triangle in the middle; where the light will come out off.
2. I sketched and found wood blocks to make buildings and cause some sort of movement.
3. Apart from wood materials, I found some other type of materials to add structure and shapes. Such as the triangle standing high and the orange strings.
4. The strings were located on top of the triangular hole to reflect its shadow.
The wood base is 12 x 12 with frames. I first sketched where the lines would be better to be cut. Then I shaped my wood blocks, I made long blocks of woods and short ones. I apart from rectangular prisms, I also used triangles, and a mid cylinder. I also tried to include different type of materials and use them differently to form uniqueness.
It's my first time working with these materials and having more limitations. Which made it more difficult to do, since I like my art work to be detailed and colorful. I still managed to to add details, by using the orange strings. I cut all the strings the same size and then glued it . I glued everything onto the base, I had to hold it for 1 min the max.
I couldn't keep it plain so I added paint , I only used two colors, orange and yellow . I painted some parts yellow and orange to emphasize it .

The wool string in the middle of the wood box, represents the wires connecting the road to the art Deco towers. This also shows movement, such as pulling, both in the artipiece and picture itself.

In this picture, there's a lot of movement and patterns going two ways, up or to the side. On top there's lights, they provide a lot of light , to reflect the yellow steel. I saw that yellow and white can work together , even though they're similar.

Reflection:
This was a really cool project, it may have seemed simple and it was when it was explained. Except when it came to actually doing it, putting the blocks or any object and playing with the light was challenging. Some of the mistakes I made, were that I had so many ideas pop in my mind when it was too late. Which resulted on either having my base crowded or semi empty. After seeing so many urban landscapes, I realized that I could have made it more crowded because it can be seens as playful, and it could have been empty , it gives this neat organized plot. Overall I think one the things I would do for next time is spray paint the wood blocks, to have a pure color. Lastly to be careful with the glue.
