Patterned Life

This would be my favorite art work so far, it provides so much detail and patterns, with telling a story of mine. Not just that, but there's a connection to my last piece with the block print. I used mainly ink to do this, it was full of messiness but so worth it. I thought this was a chance to draw whatever I wanted,, I've always like to draw faces, it didn't matter to me if it was good or not. I also got the chance to show what I've learned from the Pop Art Movement.

Process:
Here are Some Sketches >>
I began by sketching, I drew a square and first thing I did was draw half my “face”, after that I didn’t know how to fill up the rest of the square. I couldn’t think of anything, to add someone else? So I did, and that was one of my sketches. I wasn’t really pleased with this sketch. So I did another one, still drew half my face, and then went off to me having an earing. I know that ear ring are way better and usually have patterns. That’s how I came up with the idea of the background being full of patterns. Not any patterns, but I wanted it all to connect and seem smoothly, but telling me a story. The second sketch was more softly dramatic, and I was really digging it. I chose that one, since I really like it, I water painted, I like to add color to almost everything, and have it pop out. Before I started etching, I taped my sketch onto the plate, so it could turn out right. However etching was pretty difficult, it was hard to take control of it, since it would go too far or the opposite. At the end I kind of managed the inscriber. The tools I used to finish were, newspaper, water ( a bin), ink, palette knife, paper, latex gloves, and a time. Throughout the process, I was stressing out, because there would sometimes be more ink on on part of the plate, it wasn’t even, until finally one came out right!

Reflection:
When reflecting and comparing , I was proud. I thought my sketches were on point, and adding color to it was a good idea. I liked the fact how I represented Pop Art, I thought it was close enough to the ' Crying Girl' . Which was my goal. Otherwise my art wasn't very symmetrical, compared to other Pop Art work, I feel like I could have used Photoshop to construct straighter lines, and it be more neat. When comparing to others, I saw a huge difference, the blank spots, mine was full and busy, unlike others who had free space.
